The Age of Enlightenment

In the eighteenth century travel to Egypt and then to the Giza plateau was a dangerous undertaking. Even though control of area was under the Ottomon Turks the occasional visitors were likely to be robbed or killed by bandits or Arabs.

It was during the era of George Washington that interest in the Great Pyramid was renewed and new discoveries made. Edward Worthly Montague escorted Mr. Nathaniel Davison while he was on vacation and together they carefully explored the great pyramid

The intrepid adventurer Davison tied a rope around his waist, and they lowered him down into the foreboding darkness below. The descent was well over one hundred feet into the abyss, but only sand and rubbish greeted him there below.

To Davidson it seemed stranged that anyone would go through such an enormous amount of effort to dig a shaft almost 200 feet deep into the heart of the Pyramid only to come to a dead end.

Abandoning this quest, Davison set about finding any other secret features within the interior of the Pyramid. This lead him to the discover of what is now know as Davison's Chamber.
